Many weddings portrayed in film are the typical love at first sight, the wedding and happily ever after. We must keep in mind that relationships and weddings are fictional and infatuation and not the kind of love that last forever. Weddings in film never expound on the fact that marriage takes hard work and effort. Movie weddings are pure fantasy and does not take into account the commitment that is a must for any relationship to prosper for the long haul. We tend to fall into the mind set of movie portrayals of weddings and marriage but it is just unrealistic.
After all many films still feature traditional weddings and families which just is not the case in the age we live in. On screen weddings are portrayed as a husband and wife but in many cases it is man and man or women and women. Many film weddings are not current on the way of the world. Many people want the weddings and lives of their favorite character on film, which in many cases are not possible. The real world teaches us that film weddings are fantasy and not what we live in the real world. Weddings in film tend to exceed our expectations of what it takes to truly have a successful marriage.
Film weddings tend to give a false perception of what marriage entails. Film weddings and marriages makes it seen as if marriage is very simple and that it takes little or no effort to maintain a decent marriage. We all know that marriage takes the commitment of two people who are willing to do whatever it takes to make the marriage work. The stereotypes of film weddings can only cloud the expectations of the couple and leave them wondering am i doing everything i can to ensure that my marriage can and will over come any obstacle.
Weddings in film tend to portray the notion that marriage is not very important and that you need not put to much work into it. Divorce is always a viable option and that there is no need to spend a lot of time trying to fix the problems. Film weddings are fantasy and should be viewed as just that. There is not a lot of comparison to film weddings and real life weddings. Real life weddings are just that “real life”, full of commitment and love for the institution of marriage.
